Time to plan

WOW!!! I am impressed with myself :) Four days stright I have blogged!!!

Anyways.......

My best friend and I have talked many times about how we need to get a will in place. Well, today I finally did it!!

This was not by any means an easy thing to do. Who wants to think about dying?? On top of that who wants to think about dying and leaving their 6 kids with out a mom!!
Not me, that is for sure!! That is probably why I have procrastinated so long in doing it. I was on www.rocketlawyer.com today setting up a LLC and I came across the link for putting together a will. I sat there and thought to myself, "There really isn't ever going to be a good time to do this, Leslie." So I pushed pass the fact that I didn't want to think about it and just did it :)

Not only did I do my will, I also filled out Michael's for him so he can finish it up when he gets home from work.

I also went ahead and did a living will. Michael will do his when he gets home tonight. Both of the forms were very easy to do and took me a little over an hour for all 3 that I filled out.

Even though it is not something that I really wanted to think about I honestly feel a lot better now that I did it. I am perfectly healthy, but you never know what can happen. I could get hit by a car tomorrow and be gone. (I really hope not, but it is a reality)

If something happened and we didn't have a will in place and we both died then our kids would end up in foster care.... Did you know that??

That was my biggest reason for doing it. The last place that I want my kids is in foster care!! My oldest 3 would be sent back with their real dad in Florida, but my 3 little ones would be put in foster care without a will saying who is to take care of them.

I am blessed to have a wonderful friend that I can trust to raise my kids if something were to happen to me before they are out of house. (Yes, she knows that my kids are coming to her if something happens to us. She won't be shocked to see a bunch of kids to show up on her door...lol)

It was also interesting to fill out a living will. There are a lot of questions that I was asked that I would have never thought about. I am honestly glad that I filled that form out too. I do not what my family to have to try to make decisions about what I would or would not want done to me when they are in an emotional state.

Michael and I both have life insurance in case something happens to either of us. Another very important thing to have if you have children. Especially if you are a stay at home mom!!

If there are any of you reading this who do not have any of these things in place...... DO IT!! Even if you don't want to ;)

I am speaking from someone who put it off for SO LONG!! I knew it was important, but I really didn't want to think about it. I honestly feel a huge burden lifted off of my shoulders because I know that if something happens then my kids are taken care of!!!

More importantly...... I never have to think about it again :O)

Pornography

WHOA Leslie!! Are you really going to blog about porn??

Yup, I sure am!

This is a serious issue that effects millions of men and women.
It destroys marriages and families and it needs to be addressed.

Most people keep quiet and don't speak up about this issue. People want to pretend that it isn't going on. Women want to think that their husbands would never look at porn. Or if they know that their husbands struggle with such an issue they wouldn't dare speak about it to anyone!!!! That is embarrassing, right???

Well, guess what..... Not this girl!
I want to be a light and help and encourage as many women as possible!!!
I will not allow Satan to have a place in my marriage when it comes to this issue!!

Genesis 50:20
You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

My wonderful husband that I love and adore has broken my heart many times with his pornography addiction.
Yup, true story! (See my life isn't always perfect like some of you think!)

*** I would like to add that Michael does know that I am writing about this. I am not throwing him under the bus for criticism or judgement. He also wants people to know that they are not alone and help in anyway that he can!

My husband had a porn addiction long before we were every married. (I did not know this until a few months after we were married). It really isn't something that I ever thought I was going to have to deal with. We were very happy and had a wonderful marriage.

The fact is that porn is an addiction. One definition of addiction is a great interest in a particular thing to which a lot of time is devoted. He had spent YEARS of his life before me looking at/watching porn. Just because he was now in love and married didn't make all of those images and thoughts go away.

I have asked him if there was any one thing that he can pin as to why he started down the porn road. He isn't 100% sure. He was molested as a teenager and that distorted a lot of is sexual views. He was also in the drug scene for a long time before we met and that had something to do with it as well.

I don't know the exact statistics, but I read somewhere that like 80% of men view porn..... That is HUGE!!! I hear women say, oh not my husband!! He is a wonderful Christian man and he would never do that!!

Oh really?!? I found an article on christianpost.com says that,
"Thirty percent of women are addicted to it. Sixty-seven percent of men say they look at it at least once a month."

Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen :(
I PRAY that your husband is one of the few men who don't struggle with this issue!!!! But if you are one of the unlucky ones who do live with this know that there are others who know what you are going through.

The first time I found out about Michael, I think I actually caught him by seeing it on his phone??? Honestly, not 100% sure anymore. There were lots of times that I have dealt with this issue so the first time isn't clear anymore.

I do remember the pain and heartbreak that I felt when I found out. I was so upset. I cried and I cried. A million and one things went through my head after he was caught. All of them revolved around me not being good enough. I wasn't pretty enough, skinny enough, blonde enough, my boobs weren't big enough....seriously until you go through something like this you have no idea all of the crap that comes into your head.
I have had people say things to me like, You must have had some idea or thought that he was looking at porn. No, I didn't. My husband is one of the most respectable men when it comes to this. He has NEVER looked at another woman in my presence. He has NEVER commented that someone on tv was hot. He ALWAYS closes his eyes, turns his head, or leaves the room during sex/nudity scenes in movies. He looks the other way when we are walking in the mall and there is a 20ft half naked chick on the wall in front of Victoria Secret. At places where women walk around in bikinis, it NEVER phases him. I have seriously NEVER seen him look in another woman's direction, EVER since we have been married.

No matter how many times he said that it had nothing to do with me, I never believed him. My heart broke anytime I found out and it made me very insecure about myself. I didn't want him to see me with out clothes on and I didn't want to be intimate with him after I found out.

In my mind he was cheating on me. He may not have had sex with another woman, but in my mind it was the same thing. He was looking at another woman who was not me.

Matthew 5:28
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Men and women are so incredibly different when it comes to sex. Men are very visual creatures as where women are emotional creatures. Women want to be intimate when their emotions are high and they feel secure and loved by their husband (Usually) As where men like to look. They want to look at the woman's body and that is how they get aroused. There is nothing wrong with that, as long as the body they are looking at is their wife's body. But when porn is brought into the marriage sexual trust is broken.

My husband is not a bad person! Michael, like EVERYONE else in this world had an addiction. Yes, I said everyone. Because we all have something we are addicted to. It may not be something that is as serious as porn, but it is something.....drugs, alcohol, soda, chocolate, exercise, work, the computer, Facebook...etc. Addiction comes in many different forms for different people.

I have heard other women say that it is my fault that my husband turned to porn. That if we had a good sex life that he wouldn't need to look at porn. That is garbage and don't ever let anyone say that to you. We have a VERY good sex life (Sorry to my mother in law who is probably reading this....to much info, I know). That wasn't the problem.

The problem was that is was an addiction that he had to overcome. Just like any other addiction he had to learn to be stronger than the addiction that was pulling him down. He went to Celebrate Recovery at church for help and support. I also took as many steps as I could to help him. We no longer have cable in our house. The internet at our house is wi-fi from my phone, so he can not use the computer unless I am home.

I also had to learn that his addiction was NOT my fault. There was nothing that I did or could have done differently that would have stopped him. He loves me more than anything in the world and I know this!! He loves how I look, he loves my body and he loves our sexual relationship. I had to take it at face value.... it was an addiction, period.

PLEASE if your husband is struggling with this issue PLEASE realize it is not you!! Satan wants nothing more in this world than to tear you and your husband apart!! Don't let him tell you that you are not good enough. You are!!! It is an addiction and it can be overcome!!!

I am happy to say that my husband is well on his way to beating this addiction. It has been probably about 7 months since we have had any problems :)

I know that there is always a possibility that he may fall, but I am strong enough now to hold his hand and help him along in his recovery and not judge him and think that it is something that I am doing wrong! HUGE progress for both of us :)

Lala Land

Who has one of the sweetest, most amazing kids in the world???

ME!!! I DO!!!!

I want to take a minute to brag on my oldest daughter, Mariela :)

She has one of the BIGGEST hearts that I have ever seen!!!

Back in June when we first looked at this house she went home that evening and put together all of these ideas of things that she would do for her siblings in her room since she was going to have her very own room. She was SO excited! She went around the house for probably 2-3 days carrying these strips of paper around and telling me the different ideas she was going to do for "Lala Land".

Lala land is what she was going to call it :) She was going to have different themed parties in her room where they would play games and have fun.

Well, my little Miss Mariela has not disappointed!!!!

She works her butt off around the house doing different jobs so she can earn money. Then she turns around with all of her hard earned money and uses it to do something for her siblings!!!! HAPPY TEARS :)

Last week she did $25 in jobs and then she got her first real babysitting job that was not for her siblings and earned more money. She asked me to take her to the store because she wanted to buy stuff for her party/siblings. She spent all of the money that she had saved up on them, my guess is over $50 on this party for them!!!

This party was a "Love Party". Not a Valentines Day party. See, I have taught my daughter how to shop and she waited until the day after Valentines day to go to the store when everything would be 50% off! Another proud mama moment....lol

Not only is she sweet and loving she is smart too!!! :)

Here are some pictures from her love party......

They played games

They danced

They acted silly.....

She usually has goodies to give them :)

They just have fun!!
The kids usually talk about it for quite a while after they do the party.

The first party she every did for them was a glow party.

More dancing

and silliness

And lots of fun for everyone :)

Around Christmas time she did a Christmas party.

She spent HOURS decorating this one!

They did different crafts

LOTS of crafts :)

She also had Michael and I help her with a scavenger hunt and they went around the house where she hid little gifts and hints to their next activity.

I am so incredibly blessed to have a daughter who cares so much for her siblings.

Not just her either, ALL of my kids love each other so much and it brings my heart so much joy!!!

There are times when kids are crying and I am stressed to the max that I think to myself "I am doing nothing right!!!" Then one of my kids does something for someone else in our family and I am then reminded.... Yes Leslie, You are doing lots of things right!!!

I wish that I had an older sister in my life who would have done cool stuff like this for me when I was little. They are making memories that will last them a lifetime :)

****We do different nights like this around our house as a whole family quite a bit. I will start to share some of them with you so you can see where she got some of her inspiration from :)

Love gifts

I am showing off the love gifts that I made my family this year :)

These are not Valentines gifts because, well..... No one actually received them on Valentines Day....lol

I made the 3 oldest girls a chocolate bouquet!!

They LOVED them!!!!

There have been many times that we have walked through the store and the girls have all looked at the candy bouquets that they have set up around holidays. Being a mother I knew that they looked at them because they all secretly wanted one.

This year I decided that I am crafty enough to make them myself :)

Plus there is NO WAY that I am spending $20 each on them!!
I made all 3 of them for about $20. Thank you Dollar Tree :)

The girls were a HUGE help to me the day before Valentines Day, so I gave them theirs that day.

I love my husband EVERYDAY of the year, not just on Valentines Day.
This year I decided to give Michael something that would show him everyday of the year that I love him :) Since I am a HUGE fan of homemade gifts it was going to be something that came from my heart, not the store!

This is what I made......

Yes, I really typed up 365 different reasons why I love that man with all of my heart. Now everyday of the year he can pull out a piece of paper and see one of my reasons :)

He didn't get this until the day after Valentines Day because in the process of me typing everything up, my computer went stupid and erased everything I had typed!!! I was up to 262 when it erased and I boycotted the computer for 2 days after that.....grrrrr..... I was SO mad!!!!!

I guess God wanted me to be reminded one more time of all of the reasons that I love him :)

Lastly, I made Michael a framed picture of the lyrics to one of my favorite songs.

I used scrapbook paper to make my background and glued the lyrics on it.

Lyrics-

I look around and see my wonderful life
Almost perfect from the outside
In picture frames I see my beautiful wife
Always smiling
But on the inside, I can hear her saying...

“Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?

Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”

I see their faces, look in their innocent eyes
They're just children from the outside
I'm working hard, I tell myself they'll be fine
They're in independent
But on the inside, I can hear them saying...

“Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, but what about us?

Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”

So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I'm called to be
Oh, Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won't You lead me?

To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can't
Don't want to leave them hungry for love,
Chasing things that I could give up

I'll show them I'm willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this our home
Lead me, 'cause I can't do this alone

Father, lead me, 'cause I can't do this alone

He LOVED it!!!! I almost got tears :)

I am very blessed to know that my husband loves me
everyday of the year and I know that he knows I love him,
but it is always nice to show him!!

30 reasons my 3 year old might be crying

A couple of weeks ago a few of my friends were sharing a blog post on FB about why their kid might be crying. It was funny, and as I read it all I kept thinking was I could easily come up with 30 more!!

So I did :)

On any given day of the week this sweet little precious child might
WILL be crying for one, if not all of the following reasons in a single day...

  1. She woke up......... seriously.....
  2. She doesn't want the purple cup, she wants the Princess cup.
  3. She doesn't chocolate milk, she wants regular milk.
  4. She doesn't like what I made for breakfast, she wants cereal.
  5. She doesn't want to take a bath.
  6. She doesn't want to wear a long sleeve shirt, she wants a dress.
  7. She can't find her socks....... or her shoes.
  8. Blake pulled her hair.
  9. Carson threw something at her.
  10. Makayla wont play with her.
  11. Gabby wont let her in her room.
  12. Mariela wont give her gum.
  13. She is cold, but refuses to put on her coat.
  14. She doesn't like where she is sitting in the van.
  15. She is hungry..... (Next time eat your breakfast kid!)

It's hard to believe that this face is so cranky all of the time isn't it?!?

Anyways, back to the list.......

16. She doesn't like what I made for lunch, she wants PB&J.
17. She doesn't want to play THAT game, she wants the OTHER game.
18. She wants candy.
19. She hurt her toe.
20. She doesn't like the movie that we are watching.
21. She can't find her purple pony.
22. She doesn't want to take a nap.
23. She doesn't want me to put her hair up. No, wait for it.. Now she does....
24. She wants to wear earrings, but not THOSE earrings!
25. Carson knocked down her blocks.
26. She knocked down Carson's blocks and he hit her.
27. She wants a cookie.
28. She wants to play on her sister's iPod.
29. She doesn't like what I made for dinner.,,,, she wants ice cream.
30. She doesn't want to go get ready for bed!

The fact is that she is 3 and she will cry over just about everything!!
It doesn't mean that I am a bad parent or that she is a spoiled little kid. She is just not sure how to express her emotions yet, and well, crying seems to work for her (and this too shall pass..... At least that is what I keep
telling myself...lol)

So, the next time you see us in the store and she is crying for some reason or another, don't give her a nasty look just be thankful that you don't have to hear it all day :)

Luckily for her, there are more moments throughout my day
where she is the sweet little girl in this picture :)

Parenting definitely has its ups and downs!

Homemade yogurt

My husband LOVES yogurt!! He has bad acid reflux
in the mornings and it is one of the only things he can eat that
doesn't make him feel like crud!

I came across a recipe to make my own yogurt a couple of months ago and I asked my wonderful husband if he would mind being my guinea pig so I could make it. Of course he agreed, just like any wonderful husband should and I have been making it ever since :)

I do believe I have even converted a few of my friends into making their own yogurt as well!!

And why not?? It is so easy and a heck of a lot cheaper than buying it at the store!! I need to cut my costs anywhere I can :)

Here ya go!!! My homemade yogurt recipe :)

 What you will need-

1/2 gallon of whole milk
3/4 cup dried milk
1 cup plain yogurt with live cultures - read the package and make sure it says live cultures.

Directions-

Pour your milk into the crock-pot.

Put the lid on and cook it on high until it reaches a temp of 180 degrees.
*If you do not have a thermometer, it takes about 2 hours.

After it reaches 180 degrees, take the top off and let it cool back down to 110 degrees.
*About 30 min. You should be able to stick your finger in it and leave it there and it not burn you, but it still needs to be hot. If it is too hot it will kill the live cultures when you add in the 1 cup of plain yogurt.

After it cools to 110 add 3/4 c of dry milk and
1 cup of plain yogurt.

*The dry milk helps to thicken it, 3/4 c makes it a thicker consistency that my husband likes. The original recipe that I found said to use 1/2 cup, so you will just have to try it until you get the consistency that is right for you :) Remember, when you add fruit to the yogurt it is going to water it down some, so you don't want it real watery before you add fruit or else it will be yogurt water.

*You need the plain yogurt to get the live cultures. Once you make this you can just reserve one cup of your own yogurt and freeze it until the next time you make it and you wont need to buy it again for your next batch.

After you mix everything together you will wrap it up in a towel (I use 2) and place it in your oven. *Cool oven
This helps your yogurt cool slowly and is how it thickens and becomes yogurt.

I always make this at night and let it set over night. If you do it in the morning then leave it in there for 10-12 hrs.

Add your favorite fruit and or granola and......

yummy yogurt!!

*** If you do not like plain yogurt you probably won't like this. If you have never had plain yogurt it is tart compared to national brand fruit yogurt. It doesn't have any added sugar to make it sweet. It is just yogurt and the sweetness of what ever fruit you put in it.

Michael's list of favorite flavors-

Peaches (Fresh or from a can)
Crushed canned pineapple
Canned pears
Fresh blueberries
Kiwi
Strawberry & Banana

*Michael does not like it with plain strawberries. He said that the tartness of the yogurt and the natural tart from strawberries is overpowering.
He said the same thing about raspberries.

ENJOY :)

The truth

I recently had a conversation with a friend who was very inspired by my blog :) That was a HUGE compliment!!! Since starting this blog I have had quite a few people tell me that they love reading my blog! It still seems strange to go places and see people that I know and have them make a comment about something I wrote on my blog. I even get comments from people thanking me for certain posts because they too are now implementing some of the ideas that I use with my family.
HUGE Compliment!!!

I started this blog to help people understand my life as a wife and mother of a large family. People always seem to ask me questions about how I do this or that and that is why I choose to share my life with all of you. I really do pray that this blog will in someway help or touch everyone who reads it :)

With that being said I also want to make it know that I am NOT perfect!

I do not want this blog to come across as something that is unattainable for you! Yes, I have a wonderful relationship with God, my husband and my kids, BUT I fail daily as well!

The truth is........
I get mad and yell at my kids
I don't read my Bible as much as I should/want to
I don't always have a perfectly clean house
I fight with my husband
I am not always patient
Some days I don't feel like cooking, and we have mac 'n cheese for dinner
I have misunderstandings with friends
I can get irritated easily
I cry because I have a VERY strong willed boy who does NOT listen
I have days where I want to lock myself in the bathroom and never come out!!!

We ALL have days like these!!!!

This does not make you or anyone else a bad wife or mother!
It is life and life is difficult sometimes!!!

Luckily, if I totally screwed up my day and I go to bed feeling like I am the worst mother on the planet I know that tomorrow is a new day!
Tomorrow, I get the chance to start fresh.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

I will wake up the next morning and pray that my day is better than the day before. I get up and I try not to think about what all I did wrong yesterday. I focus on today and what today holds.

I do hope that I am able to help encourage some of you, but remember that just like you, I screw up.......lol

Just because we are not perfect does not mean that we can't have wonderful relationships with our spouses, children, one another and God!!
